Influenza, or flu, is a respiratory illness that results from a viral infection; it is highly contagious and spreads through respiratory droplets. A person can pass it on while talking, sneezing, and coughing. One can also get infected by coming into contact with an object or surface that has the flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or eyes.
